Digital Marketing Funnel / Hourglass

Models:

  1. AIDA-R model. Basic, this is the original model from 1898, with extra “-R”. Awareness -> Interest -> Desire -> Action -> Retention.
  2. AICIEP model.
  3. TOFU/MOFU/BOFU. Top/Middle/Bottom of funnel.
  4. ACCLA model.
  5. Customer Journey Digital Marketing Hourglass by SmartBear.

AICIEP Model

This is a variation of AIDA, that detailed the “Desire” stage into: Consideration -> Intent -> Evaluation.

Marketing starts with Awareness and move the visitor into Intent (an overlap), where the lead (now a Sales Qualified Lead/SQL) will be transferred to Sales to bring from Intent to Purchase.

AICIEP-ARPLRA Hourglass Model

This is a complete model, the top part is the AICIEP funnel, and the bottom part (post-purchase) is inverse funnel, making it hourglass shaped. This is very similar to SmartBear’s Digital Marketing Hourglass.

The 12 stages (6 pre-purchase, and 6 post-purchase) are:

  1. Awareness (Engagement).
  2. Interest (Education).
  3. Consideration (Research).
  4. Intent.
  5. Evaluation (In SmartBear’s: Evaluation & Justification).
  6. Purchase.
  7. Activation (In SmartBear’s: Adoption).
  8. Repeat (In SmartBear’s: Retention).
  9. Preference (In SmartBear’s: Expansion).
  10. Loyalty (In SmartBear’s: Expansion).
  11. Referral (Endorsement, in SmartBear’s: Advocacy).
  12. Advocacy (Evangelism).

Digital Marketing Funnel: ACCLA Model

Awareness -> Consideration -> Conversion -> Loyalty -> Advocacy. This model breaks down “Retention” into Loyalty and Advocacy.

Hendy likes this model best, it’s granular, they are specific, using the customer’s perspective, and meaningful especially in digital marketing. However, the names are not familiar (like AIDA).
